Poll question: IF the gov't is successful with its Haircut Tax scheme, will you still pay your full tip?

Your next trip to the barber could trim a little more than usual from your paycheck, depending on where you live.

In an attempt to balance their budgets, states like Michigan and Nebraska are considering making you take a haircut, by extending the state sales tax to include personal grooming services.

"These states are expanding the services they're taxing, and a haircut is considered personal grooming and can be seen as a luxury item," said Kim Rueben, a senior fellow at the Urban Institute. "And while you might not think a haircut is a luxury item, you could always do it cheaper or at home."

8. There are going to be people who do that, though.
I posted for two reasons...one, because I stumbled across the article, and two...by pure coincidence...I had a haircut today. The woman who cuts my hair charges $25, I tip her $5, and at Christmas, I tip her $25.

So I'd pay the tax AND the tip, but I know there are people who'd pass the cost onto the person providing the service, as if it were their idea.

7. Last haircut I got was in 1973 before I got out of the Air Farce
If it gets too long now, I just trim with scissors. Same for my beard.

9. I haven't been to a barber in over 17 years, since we got married...I seldom
cut my hair since I got out of the army, and when I did I cut it myself. Now that I have so little left, I clip it very short several times a year and let it grow out again for a few months.

I don't pay no stinkin' taxes!!!11!!!

12. I bought a clipper set years ago. I give myself a haircut every month or so.
I save probably a couple hundred bucks a year. 3/8" buzz cut on the sides, 1/2" on the top. Takes about 15 minutes.

I'm not a great tipper but not too lousy either. I would not reduce the tip because the price went higher, though; the price was probably not established by the person cutting my hair anyway. I'd be punishing the wrong party. I wouldn't tip my waitress less because I didn't like the food; it's not like she cooked it.
