You know , I might attend church tomorrow
Edited on Sat May-01-10 07:29 PM by UndertheOcean
A Unitarian Church , from what I read it seems open minded enough .

Just for the community aspect , I am in a new town , and lonely.

Wonder how will they react to an Arab Immigrant ex-Muslim Atheist/Agnostic ? any thoughts . Could I be too exotic , even for them.

PS

despite my Atheism I am a very mystical person , hope that is enough for them.

1. You'll probably be just fine.
I hear they are very open-minded and welcoming.

I think it's great that you're doing it.

I hope you report back to us.

They're probably good with all you AI ex-M A/A's.

Bet there's millions of you out there.

:) :toast: :hi: :fistbump:

2. You might like the Unitarians. My aunt and uncle felt quite strongly
that they had no supernatural beliefs, but regularly attended unitarian services. You might also check out the local Buddhists and their meditation trainings

Another group you might consider are the Quakers: the Friends Meetings that I attended consisted of people sitting quietly until someone felt moved to stand and say something, with everyone reflecting quietly on what had been said; often there was a brief social time after the service:

Quakers have no creed nor dogma. Friends do have five testimonies that are beliefs lived into action. They are Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, and Equality. http://www.orlandoquakers.org/resources.htm

4. Everyone in a Unitarian church are supposed to have their personal belief system or not. That is how
they roll. You will be welcomed and accepted.

6. There are times we need to feel part of a community,
and you say you are new in town, alone and a mystical person. From what I hear, Unitarian churches are very open and welcoming. You'll be just fine there, dear UndertheOcean. I hope you'll have a wonderful Sunday!

7. I attended the Unitarian church for many years
My dad was a Unitarian minister, although he didn't do that full time until he retired. During the summer, our regular minister would go on vacation (sabbatical). Members of the church would guest minister in the interim. We had a couple of athiest members and one of them would occassionally offer an athiest sermon during those occassions. If that's not open minded, I'm not sure what is. You won't be considered exotic.

These days I don't believe in organized religion, but if I did I would still be a Unitarian.
