Poll question: Best Hospital Teevee Show Of All-Time? |
|
Was talking this over with someone, and was unable to come to a decision.
MASH was left off the list deliberately, mostly because if it were on the list, there would be no need for a poll.
I think this is most of the major hospital teevee shows in my lifetime. Which do you think is the best EVAH?

1. I suppose Quincy doesn't count |

His office was in a hospital but most of the people he was dealing with were a bit past even critical care stage.

Great show though, no doubt.

|
Edited on Sun May-02-10 06:44 AM by alphafemale
I used to love ER but it went on far too long.
If they had ended the season when Dr. Green died that would have been fitting. The way he reconnected with his daughter, and the way the last few minutes of that episode were filmed was absolutely perfect.
I lost interest in the show after he was gone.

|
Ever seen him in "The Asphalt Jungle," that classic noir flick about a diamond heist? One of my favorites.
So....were you a "Ben Casey" person or a "Dr. Kildare" person, or did you watch both shows? As I remember, each show had its own following; we watched them both, every week.....

I was very young. My job as the baby of the family was to lay in front of the television and change the channel to whatever the big people wanted to watch. I have a vague recollection of young Dr. Kildare but my memories of Vince Edwards and Mr. Jaffe are much more vivid so I shall assume we were a Ben Casey house. :)
I am ashamed to say I've never seen The Asphalt Jungle. I shall try.

That was the first one that came to my mind.
I'm also a fan of House, Nurse Jackie and even Mercy, which is really more about the nurse than the hospital, but I enjoy it.

I know that some of them are very good shows, but they just haven't pulled me in.
House is an exception--I've watched a lot of that series (mostly on DVD), though it does get a bit repetitive.

18. Doctor in the House - a BBC comedy (with occasional drama) show |
|
Up through the late-80's, the PBS station station in Seattle used to cull the best of the BBC shows from a station in Vancouver B.C. and rebroadcast them over the weekends as filler shows. Don't know if they still do that anymore, my folks no longer live up there.

35. Thanks for that link. Check out this quote from there: |
|
In describing why he won't be returning:
"Originally, we had intended Mo-Mo to be Jackie’s best friend, but as season one progressed, other characters naturally evolved into that role."
WTF? "other characters naturally evolved into that role"??? Like, it's an organic thing and there aren't scripts?
That's got to be the stupidist thing I've ever read about a TV show plot.

in later years, it just kinda lost me, but it was great early on.
By a year or two after Anthony Edwards left, Maura Tierney's was the only character left who interested me at all.

38. One hospital TV show that I just can't bear to watch... Casualty (BBC domestic). |
|
It's a pretty good show but any gory scenes for me are way TOO realistic. Can't stand much the sight of blood, and Casualty is good at having nice road traffic accidents come into A&E for either being saved or not, depending on the script.
But then again, I didn't grow up on a full diet of US TV.
Mark.

Come on folks, the one program that inspired communities around the country to upgrade their EMS services?
Felt sorry for Gage, poor guy couldn't get laid in a brothel. But then again, he had a habit of being something of a dick to most women. Except Dix. She didn't take no shit from anyone.
