ENUMERATORS!
Without disclosing any PII under Title 13, how did your NRFU assignments go today?

Seriously, how is that even allowed anymore?

7. My group had three of those on Friday
Two were hovels that we declared "open to the elements."

The other was an abandoned, one-unit trailer plot.

All within about a half a mile of one another.

18. Sometimes there are new units not on the official map.
Ten years ago I found that to be the case when I was doing census work.

20. Yeah, this house has been there awhile.
I think the team that did the map spots had just gotten fed up with the area they were at.

I'd be surprised if they could have whipped up a house in the meantime!

4. Not starting 'til tomorrow.
I'm a bit annoyed because the group they put me in is does not include the street on which I live. I was hoping to get to do my own street, particularly since my friend and neighbor never turned in his form; I've been giving him shit about it all month and was hoping I'd get to interview him. :-)

The guy said he didn't have time, so I left an NV and booked right the hell out of there; he had his brother and a friend with him. I just had a Bad Feeling.

If the people look threatening back away and talk to your CL about it with an INFO-COMM. This is an important job we're doing but, not worth becoming a martyr for IMHO.

12. Not bad.
Found a long-abandoned house whose garage smalled like a herd of buffalo had been pissing in there for a year. Not getting many callbacks on the phone. But at least I've only had one outright refusal and zero gun-brandishing yahoos.

31. I went out today. They gave me 2 huge condo buildings.
You can't go in the buildings, and when nobody answers their doorbells, there is nowhere to leave an NV. And that was just the first building. The second building doesn't even have doorbells. It has an intercom-type thing where you have to know the person's extension or type in the name to be able to reach them. Since I don't know anybody's name, I'm SOL on that one. There was a phone number on the door to arrange for deliveries, so I think I'll call it tomorrow and see if I can get any help there. Needless to say, I am none too happy about my assignment.

32. For my first day in the field this round, better than I expected
I worked for a couple of months last year recording map spots on the handheld, but today was my first day of this more socially interactive round.

Started out with an area that is likely to be one of the closest to my own 'hood as I'm likely to get. (My own neighborhood isn't even included in the entire bunch of assignment areas, oddly enough.)

Realizing how hard it's going to be to catch people during particular times of the day. When I worked the earlier round, the point was more to record map spots than to try to catch people, as there generally wasn't a need to talk to them, so going out when few people were home wasn't a problem. That aspect's going to be quite a bit more complicated this round, as talking to people is a necessity.

The people I did catch have been pretty pleasant, though. Even the ones that started out seeming like they might be difficult ended up being not bad to deal with at all.

The heat is another thing entirely. We're hitting record highs in my area, and I figure it's only going to get worse from here!

36. My CL just told me today that we need to close out more spots faster.
Edited on Thu May-06-10 02:41 AM by icymist
What do you make of that? I have a spot that I left a NV on 4/30 and 5/4 and now have been instructed to close it out as soon as possible. Another I left a NV on 5/1 and he wants it closed out by 5/6? I thought we were supposed to visit these places three times before we closed them out!?

37. Same here.
Plus our hours have been reduced. :-(

If I'm understanding my CL the whole "close out" is to do the three visits but not waste any further time on non-responders in order to move onto another AA.
