1. Chris Partridge #1 or #2?
Either way, they're both proto-Mike Portnoy's.

6. There is no question
that both David Cassidy and Shirley Jones were very talented. IIRC, Shirley worked on Oklahoma, so she had probably a good deal of musical theatre behind her.

7. Danny Bonaduce is a morning talk show guy here in Philly.
This takes talent. You have to connect with a diverse audience that frowns on inauthenticity, and roots for "wannabees" to fail. He ain't no wannabee--he is a Philly-based Celebrutard. We want to see him box someone twice his size. His fans like his confidence and his boast that he's done it all, just like his hundreds of callers like his "Life Coach" routine--he really has made most of the mistakes it's possible to make.

In his own weird way, Bonaduce has proven that he has talent by shunning (or f*cking up) the path he could have taken, and finding his own. He's a reality show refugee in search of his own reality. He's self-deprecating, and also self-aggrandizing. He's fascinating, personable, flawed, and actually, pretty funny. I don't think he could either sing or play an instrument. He probably realizes every day his stardom has something to do with being too ginger to *not* use. He just looked right and had a certain maturity as a child actor to play a part, and there he was. Too weird. He seems to know that. And almost "plays" himself for an audience that likes train wreck humanity, and loves the tales of survivors.

That's a living.

14. Vix, you're a good writer.
Not only did you just write a more glowing accolade to Danny Bonnaduce that I ever could; you wrote a more glowing account that I could have ever imagined possible. Hopefully, it'll be 40 or 50 years from now, but I think I want to hire you to write my eulogy. :p

8. If voting is based on the actors then I'd give it to Shirley Jones. She has done Broadway.

12. Well Shirley won an Oscar for "Elmer Gantry"

And more important than that she was also in "The Music Man". I say no contest.

Edited on Fri May-07-10 01:32 PM by KamaAina
you remember, the one he thought was the reincarnation of Edith Piaf or something, until the rest of them played a tape of her singing (so he couldn't look at her while he listened to it) and it sounded like fingernails on a chalkboard? :P

16. Shirley was an actress and singer of note well before the show
Cassidy's singing didn't impress me but he was a good actor, better than the material.

Although he's had legal problems, Bondauce has managed a TV and radio career. I'll never forgive him for Celebrity Boxing, though

18. I vote for Mr. Kinkaid - he managed to get that trainwreck enough paying gigs to make a living.
Though as others have said, Shirley Jones really does have the music and acting chops.

And if David Cassidy could have avoided the teen idol role, he might actually have been able to create a musical career - I think he had the talent, but he got stuck doing teenthrob shit music that guaranteed he'd be totally irrelevant in a couple years.
