Do you ever wonder what it would be like to live in a society that didn't change much?

One where your life was pretty much like that of your grandparents, great-grands even?

For most of history most people have lived that way.

I find it hard to imagine.

1. Accelerated rates of change give us a distorted, impatient view of progress
A time traveling Fertile Crescent farmer from 2000bc would have all the basic skills needed to earn a living in 1700ad. But a 1940 farmer who woke up Van Winkle like today would probably be useless in the agricultural industry of 2010.

2. I can't imagine it either.
We dress much more casual and comfortable than folks did one hundred years ago, we have more variety in food, diseases have been wiped out and we have better treatment for others, and while we still have a long way to go I think people are much more accepting of different races and life styles than ever before.
