1. My dear Wolf-Were!
It is very normal to feel that way...

You can't help but be fascinated by the new kitten, and so there will be times when you neglect your other cat.

Keep trying, and sooner or later, you will strike a balance.

Good luck!

2. One of the earliest things I learned
was that the kitteh is not YOUR cat, but you're older cat's cat. So that you need to refer to the kitteh as __________'s cat, whatever the older one's name is. This helps your older cat not to feel ignored, since you've given it a baby to take care of. If you get over to www.catfancy.com, they have a good sized database of questions, hints, and all sorts of info that has appeared in their magazine for years.

3. Don't feel bad. There will be times when they play with each other and you are left out. LOL!

4. That's very true.
A few years ago I got a kitten to keep my cat Milo company, and once the initial obligatory hissing had concluded, Milo pretty much ignored me because he was so taken with his new friend. Once the novelty wore off he started paying more attention to me again, but I did try to make it clear to Milo that Jeff, the new kitten, was *his* kitten. And then I got another kitten, Pixie, who became Milo's and Jeff's kitten for awhile. It all worked out.

5. sure there's lots of hissing & carrying-on and then one day
you walk in on them, the older cat teaching the younger cat how to open the pantry, among her other juvenile delinquent tricks. :eyes:

6. Just love both of them and give each lots of affection.
I have acquired five strays and they all get lots of attention. Some like their space and hibernate parts of the day but then come for affection. I've never seen fine animals so completely compatible. They all lie in one big furball legs and heads crossing over each other. It's like they are all part of one in every way. Each has their own personality and I appreciate all the differences in each of them. I once preferred dogs, but now my favorite is cats. I've always been there for any animal in need...

Congratulations on your new addition to your family. It will take time for things to balance out, but you get out of animals exactly what you put into them.

7. I forgot to add: You have two hands. Pet both of them at the same time. I do it all the time...
