I was talking to a friend today about our wars...
and what a tragedy it was that it's died from people's consciousness and the media. I'm ashamed to say I lost count of the Iraq casualities somewhere in the 4 thousands. Now I have no idea how many we've lost there or in Afghanistan.

All the talk about the sixties and the passion people had for change got me thinking about how ambivalent we've become about it all. What happened to our passion?

Probably too heavy a subject for the lounge, but I'm listening to Franti who always gets me thinking.

1. There are still places keeping track of the deaths
Wikipedia has a page that gives convenient lists and sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casualties_of_the_Iraq_War

Iraq Body Count 95,888 – 104,595 violent civilian deaths as a result of the conflict. March 2003 to April 2010

U.S. armed forces 4,379 dead as of February 23, 2010. As of February 23, 2010 there were 31,693 wounded in action. Of these 9,477 required medical air transport. There were 36,106 non-hostile-related medical air transports (9,452 for non-hostile injuries, and 26,654 for diseases or other medical reasons).

2. Thanks so much for that, csziggy
Do you know if there's a link for Afghanistan casualties? I know we've lost more there this and last year than in Iraq.

3. Wikipedia, again

I just hope Obama gets a meaningful number of our people out of Iraq this year and out of Afghanistan soon after. We need to fix our country before sending our people to places where they are not wanted.
