It's perfectly within his character to be a sleazebag! He joined the good guys, but he was still a sleazebag at heart!

3. What made him a sleazebag? |
|
He was smuggling under laws of a crooked corrupt empire, that makes him one of the good guys.
Or is every law, even under an unjust system still just?

4. Because he shot first. |

Sleazebags shoot first because they're cool like that.

7. It's not that he was a sleezebag (which IMO he wasn't) |
|
It's that he thought first and foremost of himself. By the end of the film (and, in the larger sense, by the end of the original trilogy), Han has grown to become part of a larger whole, rather than being a self-serving loner. This evolution is part of what makes his character so interesting.
However, with Lucas' post hoc revision, he short-circuited that evolution and turned Han into a nice guy who stays a nice guy and winds up being a nice guy. An utterly flat and boring character arc.

As it was explained to me, right here in this very Lounge, Han Solo did not shoot first.
Han shot. There was no second shot.
You could say that he shot first, but only in a "shoot first, ask questions later" sort of way, which is contrary to how the scene was meant to play out in the first place.

8. That's right. Han shot ONLY. |
|
It bugs me that the "shot first" meme is so popular.

11. Greedo never even pulled the trigger |

I never understood why Lucas felt the need to change it. Some green dude pulls a gun on you (even telling you he's going to kill you) and self defense isn't called for?
