OUTRAGE!!! OUTRAGE!!! OUTRAGE!!! OUTRAGE!!! OUTRAGE!!!
.
I have a conservative friend (one) who passes along the
chain emails he gets expressing conservative outrage.
.
He's probably sent me several hundred over the years
(they are ALWAYS outraged outraged outraged about
something), and all but ONE of them were easily disproved
by going to Snopes (and the one was simply an opinion
piece -- not factual).
.
.
But the main thing I learned about conservatives is that
they seem to thrive on constant outrage.
.
I'm pretty sure it makes them... "happy".

1. Their "outrage" is always based on a (real or perceived) weakening of their power structure.

2. I think you're mostly right...
.
...but there is something almost joyful or anticipatory in their
outrage and what they can be outraged against next.
.
Their chain emails are FULL of the word "outrage" (and synonyms).
.
My goodness, I'd be eaten up inside with that constant level of
anger and frustration and resentment.
.
Fiber.
.
More fiber is definitely a start.

3. Yeah, they're trying to stir up more "outrage"
and it's sad to hear and read people repeating it and being outraged themselves, even when they don't understand what they're talking about.

4. I've noticed that too
And find it funny when one of them says I am angry because I am pointing out something in the real world (using actual facts and stuff). I'm really starting to think they project everything onto us.

5. I don't think it's just conservatives.
When I read your subject line I thought this was going to be a thread about GD...

10. That is an outrageous thing to say ...
... or to type.

6. This is how they rally the troops
seeing the world in black and white. "you are either with us or against us."

Government is bad... until you need some help.

7. A lot of fake outrage
One particular example - a chain e-spam posted on a forum back around 2005 or so comparing the fatality rate for U.S. soldiers in Iraq to the murder rate in Washington D.C.. The attempted point, was that Iraq wasn't as dangerous as the "Liberal Media" portrayed. It was full of bad math and logic (compared one month of Iraq casualties to one year of D.C. murders, cherry picking the worst year for D.C. murders and a low month for Iraq, ignoring civilian casualties, etc.). When I pointed out the math errors and invalid comparisons, the poster accused me of "attacking the troops".

I called him on the fake outrage. He was the one trivializing the risks taken by U.S. soldiers.
