Are you related to any politicians?
This weekend, I found out that Lyndon Johnson was my great great grandmother's half-sister's husband's second cousin. How's that for a distant relation?!? haha

1. Well, my stepfather was once basically promised a seat in the House
but he declined, because a) he would have had to move to the state in question, and b) being kind of "mavericky", he knew perfectly well he'd never get re-elected!

9. I am one, actually!
Served three terms in the state legislature and one on the city council, plus a gig on the Democratic State Committee years ago.

My grandfather was a member of the Democratic committee in Somerville, Mass and knew most of the party bigshots in the 1950s and 1960s. Michael Dukakis came to the house, Gov. Chub Peabody was a friend, and Tip O'Neil, who lived about a mile away, attended his wake and funeral.

37. No politicians but...
Found out last year that I'm supposedly related to:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Anderson_(Civil_War)

According to my mother, someone in the family has the geneology papers to back it up. If that's true then I am distant cousins with the woman I just hired six months ago. SNIRK. Too funny.

Very distantly related to this gentleman on my father's side:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phineas_Gage

Supposedly the forerunners of the family came to England with William the Conqueror.

Love geneology... quite fascinating.

A closer connection (in time) is that my grandmother taught Governor Lawton Chiles in Sunday School when he was a child. And she was good friends with Governor and Senator Spessard Holland's wife.

ETA: some of my cousins married right wing nut politicians downstate in Polk County, but they don't count - I've never met the hubbies and haven't seen the cousins other than in passing for 30-40 years.
