2. Yes, she's a terrific singer, but the deal with Boyle was not just

that she could sing, or that such a voice came out of that person, but that she overcame the jeering that greeted her the minute she stepped foot on stage. Evidently, what the famous 7 minute clip does not show is the two non-Cowell panelists insulting her before she sings. The man says something to the effect of "that's a hard song to sing" and the woman says "well what do you want the old bag to sing? Do you want her up there jumping around like she's Britney Spears or something???" And then they get into it. So, she's already pissed off by the time Cowell gets to her. Hence, why she tries to get off the stage after singing. She doesn't want to be judged by them because of how rude they all were.

Overcoming that, to sing that well showed astonishing poise. A year later, it is still one of those great 'fuck you' moments.
