Probably not in a deep fryer. Margarine has a lower burning temperature than most oils so it would more likely burn at deep fryer temperatures. It might be OK for pan frying, but it's not the best choice.

but I think it tends to splatter when it's heated. And use it only in a skillet - perhaps if the temperature is not very high it might work?

fake diet "spreads" no - they don't even really melt
olive oil or any veg oil would probably be better
