Just saw The Invention of Lying last night. |
|
Briliant little movie.
Ricky Gervais is an intelligent, funny man.
The plot and questions it raises are things I'll be thinking about for days.
I also wonder how much Jennifer Garner's part might have been just a teensy bit biographical...

1. Very thought provoking movie. |
|
I thought about this movie for a while after I saw it as well. I thought the treatment of religion was a little heavy-handed, but hey I'm a big boy with big beliefs, I can take it.
(And do women really *do* that just before a date?)

2. I think the perspective that lies aren't ALL bad was an interesting take on things. |
|
And as to your question....
I've known a couple women who DO.

3. Lies aren't bad. Betrayal is bad. |
|
You can betray by telling lies and you can betray by telling the truth. It depends on the circumstances.

4. Precisely. And the previous culture, where everyone blurted out what they really thought... |
|
Seemed ultimately tactless and hurtful.
White lies are the threads from which polite society is woven.
