If I ever had a child, I'd name him or her Cthulu. |
|
After all, it wouldn't be any worse than a lot of the names kids are tagged with now.

1. And he/she could have sleepovers with his/her friends Yog-Sothoth, |
|
Azathoth and Nyarlathotep. Way more interesting than Tiffany, Madison, Chloe, Joshua and Jason.

3. I don't mind Tiffany so much.... |
|
As long as you don't spell it "Tyfani". Same for Madysin. Chloe, Joshua and Jason do resist being differently spelled.

5. I'm tired of all of those trendy names, even if the spellings aren't mutated |

beyond recognition. Madison? I hate that name. Seriously -- you'd name your kid after the capital of Wisconsin?? Jeez, why do people have to give their kids the same name as every other kid on the block? Go to any elementary school playground and holler "Hey! Jason! Madison!" and every damn kid within earshot will answer. And if "Madison" is all trendy and cool these days, what about other capitals, like Albuquerque? "Come on in and wash your hands now, Albuquerque, it's time for dinner." Or maybe Tallahassee? Bismarck? Spokane? Sacramento? "Eat your peas now, Boise, or no dessert for you!" And then misspell them on top of it: Albakurki, Tallyhassy, Boyzee?
Oh, and all of them had better keep the hell off my lawn.
*grumble*

6. You're right, of course. I crumble too easily. |

I've had my babies (Lily and David, now well and truly full grown in their early '30's) but nevertheless, with a hopeful eye toward grandchildren, I have been very fond of the name Isabel (or Isabella, or Isobel) for a while. Then I find out that Isabella is now the most popular girl's name, supplanting Emma. Oh rats!!!

7. My grandmother's name was Isabel. She was born in 1886. |
|
A lot of what I've always thought of as old lady names seem to be making a comeback, like Emma, Emily, Olivia, Abigail, Amelia. Still, it's better than naming your kid after the capital of Wisconsin and then spelling it wrong.

12. Ogden Nash's tribute to his little girl (at the time) Isabel: |
|
Isabel met an enormous bear, Isabel, Isabel, didn't care; The bear was hungry, the bear was ravenous, The bear's big mouth was cruel and cavernous. The bear said, Isabel, glad to meet you, How do, Isabel, now I'll eat you! Isabel, Isabel, didn't worry. Isabel didn't scream or scurry. She washed her hands and she straightened her hair up, Then Isabel quietly ate the bear up.
There are many more verses...and Isabel triumphs in all of them... Cheers.

10. The popular names of today are very old names |
|
Madelyn, Alice, Harriett, Hazel
I myself would name my kid Izzy, not Isabell, Izzy.
