I am off the DMV to renew my license... |
|
Edited on Thu May-13-10 01:35 PM by Drunken Irishman
I got it when I was 16. A lot has changed since then. I think I look way better now, so it'll be nice to get an updated photo.
With that said, that's IF I get it renewed. I'm one of those fools who's blind and doesn't wear glasses. So, since I own no glasses, I have to stop by and pick up my mom's reading glasses in hopes of winging the eye test. I am not confident. But it's better than going in with nothing (which I failed originally, all the way back when I first got the license).
I need good luck vibes and I'll let you know if I didn't pass.
If I don't, I need glasses by Monday (and money, I guess), because my birthday is on the 17th and that's when my license expires. If I let it expire, I'll have to take all the tests over again (and I haven't done a driving test since I was in HS).
Grr.

1. The little old guy in line ahead of me the other day must have been on the eye test for 10 minutes. |
|
He kept taking his glasses off and putting them on. On top of an apparent vision problem he seemed a little out of it. The clerk had to call a supervisor over and that went on for another 3-4 minutes. But dammit if he didn't pass!

4. Maybe I should have taken my time. |
|
I gave up like five seconds into it because it was all a blur.

2. Good luck. I hope you have LOTS of documentation. |
|
I had to order a CERTIFIED copy of my birth certificate from my home state (since the hospital certificate I've carried for 40 years doesn't cut it).
You also have to have a couple bills showing you live where you say you live.
I guess if you have a current passport, you're golden.

My eyes are shit.
Couldn't even make out most of the first mother fucking line.
So now I have to go to an eye doctor and have him sign off on something, then take it back. All before my birthday Monday.
Of course, since our state has a budget crisis, all state offices are closed tomorrow. Figures.

5. They went to four tens before the budget crisis. |
|
Did you have all your documentation? When they said, "papers, please" you were able to produce?
Lucky!

6. I accidentally let mine expire |
|
You won't believe this (I can still hardly believe it myself...) but I had let my DL expire almost TWO YEARS ago and so have been driving without a valid license all this time. I don't know how it happened, but it did.
When I went to renew a few months ago, I just had to take the written test (and eye exam) but that was it.
I am SO lucky I was never stopped in that time. Well, actually I was stopped once for a really stupid thing but the cop didn't even ask for my DL and oh boy now I'm so glad he didn't!
