Going in tomorrow--very early--for hand surgery

Trigger finger going to be released. Has anyone gone through it? How did it work out?

Prayers not needed, but a hearty good luck will boost my esteem!

In my 54 years, I've never been operated on--the angioplasties required me being relatively alert, so this is a first. I've been in so much hand pain, that despite my misgivings, this might be the only thing that works. The doctor said it won't get to rest, though, as therapy will start from day one to keep it flexible.

Going to bed early tonight. Have to set an alarm or two to wake up--something I haven't done for quite some time. My usual schedule is go to bed at 4 am, wake up at noon. *sigh* I just hope I can sleep tonight!

2. I had it done

I had a trigger thumb released and a ganglion cyst removed when I was about 20. The surgery was no big deal. I was told to keep it moving after the first day too. I played a bunch of solitaire and did puzzles so it would stay loose.

Unfortunately, I slipped going down a flight of stairs a week after the surgery, and messed it up. Had to go back in to have the ligaments re-attached. When everything was said and done, I'm glad I did it because it really helped the pain and tightness in my thumb. It's not as strong as it should be, but the improvement was striking.

I haven't had the particular surgery you're having but have had enough to know that it's always nerve-wracking!

4. just make sure the middle finger still works in case you need to use sign language.

5. I had it done a little over a year ago.

Both index fingers and one middle finger stuck in the "trigger" position. Steroid injections were very effective for the middle finger, but not the other two. The surgery was a breeze-- twilight anesthesia. Took awhile to get my grip strength back, but all is well now. I wish you a successful surgery and complete, rapid and comfortable healing!

Home now since about 1 this afternoon, but I slept most of the day.

Still in a lot of pain, though. The finger is swollen, but they want me using it, which likely isn't going to happen to any degree soon.

Thanks again--now I have to get wardrobe together and other things, as I'm heading out to Foxwoods today--Saturday!--to see Engelbert tonight. I have to get things together so I can get my ride at 7:15 am. Yikes.
