The best cartoon ever made
Edited on Fri May-14-10 07:54 PM by Catshrink
is indisputably "What's Opera, Doc?" starring Bugs Bunny & Elmer Fudd. Indisputably. See for yourself:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJAXJWm8G4A&playnext_from=TL&videos=X4HvN6ZKi-Y

Then enjoy scenes from the same 'toon "Bohemian Whapsody" set to the music of Queen.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN51VU-Zf5M&playnext_from=TL&videos=X4HvN6ZKi-Y

Is it as good as the original? No -- but it's pretty stinkin' close!

1. It's great, no question, but I like the frenetic pacing of "Rabbit of Seville" better.
One time I was listening to the NPR (classical) station in the car when the overture to Barber of Seville came on - I surprised myself (and cracked myself up) singing the entire cartoon's Bugs/Elmer lyrics along with it. :D

39. The whole introductory piece is fantastic
"How about a nice close shave? Teach your whiskers to behave.
Lots of lather, lots of soap. Please hold still, don't be a dope.
Now you're ready for the scraping. There's no use to try escaping.
Yell and scream and rant and rave. There's no use, you need a shave.

...

There...you're nice and clean...
But your face looks like it might have gone through a machine."

- - - - -

Science fiction is full of stories about time travel. If it were real, I would want to travel back to one day in time: the night Rabbit of Seville premiered in a theatre. I would love, just once, to see that cartoon on a motion picture screen. And just imagine the reaction of the audience when that cartoon was played.

Bugs Bunny: You keep outta this! He doesn't have to shoot you now!
Daffy Duck: He does so have to shoot me now!
Daffy Duck: I demand that you shoot me now!
Daffy Duck: Let'sth run through that again.
Bugs Bunny: Okay.
Bugs Bunny: Wouldja like to shoot me now or wait till you get home?
Daffy Duck: Shoot him now, shoot him now.
Bugs Bunny: You keep outta this. He doesn't hafta shoot you now.
Daffy Duck: Ha! That's it! Hold it right there!
Daffy Duck: Pronoun trouble.
Daffy Duck: It's not: "He doesn't have to shoot *you* now." It's: "He doesn't have to shoot *me* now." Well, I say he does have to shoot me now!

19. I showed it to my students yesterday
They just finished their "debates" and one of the teams had mentioned GMOs killing rabbits. We had a little time left so I put it on as a "reward" for their hard work. These kids had never seen it! When the kids saw the horse they howled with laughter.

Then we saw the link to "Bohemian Whapsody" and some of the students stayed after class to watch it.

25. but they were not made for kids, they
were made for adults. They only became children's fare with the arrival of TV. Many of these 30s & 40s contained adult content. Early Betty Boop is a good example. But many others were not only sexual, violent but very racist.

when Foghorn Leghorn picks the dog up by the tail and spanks his ass with a 2x4, and then

escapes just out of reach when the dog runs out of rope is right up there in my book.

Although it misses on a few parts, it gets many right.

The invisible horses, shows a concept that is in much of that movie, that actually has many lessons in it.

and most importantly, most people do not realize, the rabbit only does what is attempted to be done to it. Although some wrongly think it is a bad rabbit, that scene is more about 'rules applied back' in my view.
