The last Ziegfeld Follies chorus girl died this week

Her name was Doris Eaton Travis and she was 106. She joined the follies when she was just 14 as an understudy to dancer Ann Pennington. Doris was featured in the very first part of PBS' 2004 documentary Broadway The American Musical. She did a short tap dance which was pretty damn good for somebody who was either 99 or 100 years old at the time. Apparently she was well enough last month to make it to the annual Broadway AIDS benefit and do a little soft shoe for them. Doris was a neat lady, I got to chat with her the day after her PBS "Broadway" segment aired, and she sent autographed pictures to many of my friends who are nostalgia nuts like me.
