Pay ATTENTION, people!
I have a balance disorder due to removal of a brain tumor; to get to it they had to remove the balance nerve and inner ear on one side. I can walk fine if it's flat and light out but have difficulty if I'm carrying something for any sort of distance, there is a hill, it's dark, etc. So, I have a handicap plate on my car. I parked in a h/c spot this morning at Lowes because I was getting a bunch of garden tools which were going be hard to carry. So, I get back to my car and there is a note, presumably from the person who parked in the spot in front of mine that says "These spots are for people who can't walk, not for people who don't want to. Shame on you." Obviously they didn't see a hang tag and jumped to conclusions rather than walk around my car to see if there was a plate (Michigan doesn't have front license plates).

Woe be to them that they left space on the note and I had a pen in my purse. Self righteous, sanctimonious, conclusion jumper.

1. I have a real problem with folks who park in handicap spots who should NOT.
.
I have no problem getting in their faces.
.
Used to drive MiddleFingerMomMom's car (with a handicap
plate on it) but, unless she were actually WITH me...
I would never even consider taking up one of those spots.
.
One of the ultimate in egocentric me-me-me yuppiefuck
expressions, IMneverHO.
.
No, that sentence did NOT contain redundancies!!!

2. I do too
But I am legally entitled to one and was legally parked there. These people were the lazy ones; they didn't look at my license plate.

3. I wasn't insinuating that YOU were in the wrong...
.
...there are all sorts of reasons why people NEED those spots.
.
One thing, though... here in Tucson, we probably have a relatively
larger senior population that many other areas, so some large stores
have HUGE areas for handicap parking.
.
These same seniors tend not to shop in the evening, so there will be
that same HUGE area almost completely empty -- but forcing others
to park far afield...sometimes VERY far. I had sprained my ankle once,
and probably didn't qualify for handicap parking, but unassisted walking
(i.e. shopping cart-less) was uncomfortable, if not painful.
.
In our area, it would make sense to put a time limit on all but the
closest of handicap spots - say 5 or 6 AM to 7 or 8 PM.
.

4. If there is only one h/c spot available I rarely take it
On the theory that there is someone who probably needs it more than I do. But, at 8:00 a.m. at Lowes, there was an abundance.

I like the idea of a time limit; it makes a lot of sense.
