Granted, that first single of theirs "Creep" was a blatant Nirvana ripoff, but after that, they at least found their own thing, like it or not (and I really don't either)

Coldpuke, on the other hand, did an initial single that while dumb and repetitive (how many times can you mention a fucking color in a song??) was at least original. And they became the most blatant U2 ripoff since Simple Minds broke up.

U2 was actually influenced by Simple Minds' use of synthesizers and electronics.

8. That's the one by Coldplay I was listening to.

I think the first 5 or 6 tunes on it were big hits. It struck me how simple the songs actually are, but they are really good pop songs. Most of the metal I listen too is far more complex, but it is ugly music and the most succussful of those bands don't usually sell more than 50,000 copies. It's mood music for me. When I'm feeling like I need to rock hard I throw on the metal.
