Solar split pea soup
I just finished dinner: split pea soup with ham, red potato, carrot and celery,
cooked up in the backyard using my cardboard and aluminum foil solar cooker -

The box is to elevate the panel for the correct angle of reflection. An oven bag around the pot is also strongly recommended.

I made this contraption a couple of years ago using plans for the Fun Panel . Not at all difficult to make. If you'd rather
buy a pre-made cooker like it, you can order a CooKit, or even just use a reflective windshield sun screen like this:

If you're really into it, you can purchase a Sun Oven , which will yield much
higher temps and allow you to bake and roast with better results. For the money,
I'm planning on making my own enclosed unit instead.

Tomorrow night - Lemon chicken!

1. That is so cool! I made my smoker out of a cardboard box,
foil, a cooling rack and an aluminum pan. It worked! You can't cook in it but you smoke before or after you cook your ingredients.

3. I've always coveted those 3rd world dung-fermenting methane cookers:
scoop some poop into the tub in the AM, close it up, attach the burner in the PM, fire it up, and cook dindin

But I suspect omnivore scat is not the source of choice: probably want cow or horse droppings, not pig or dog or human waste

Might be cool to take one on a pack trip, though
