Best gross-out scenes in fictional film?
That is, let's skip all of those tired jokes about "Bush in Farenheit 911" and the like and instead stick with purely fictional films.

For me, the grossest scene, and the one that still disturbs me the most even after almost a quarter of a century, is Geena Davis giving birth to the Brundle-larva in her nightmare sequence. Horrified me when I first saw it in '86 and still bothers me to this day. Yikes and double-yikes!

Yours?

1. I don't know about "best," but in Pulp Fiction, in the car when the gun went off.

I can't stand it and I never wanna see that movie again. But everybody else I know loves that film.

3. Gross, yet EXTREMELY funny and (I think intentionally) poorly shot...
.
...the scene in "Stand By Me" where Lardass gets his revenge on
the townsfolk during the blueberry pie-eating contest at the county
fair. Hilarious.
.
Similar, but grosser and somewhat more disturbing, the cherry-pit
scene in "Witches of Eastwick".
.
.
As to the earlier post about "Pulp Fiction":
.
Knowing a LEETLE bit about gun safety and the ignoramuses who
ignorantly display their ignance (and Arizona just discarding
their requirement for a required course -- including gun safety
training -- as a prerequisite for a concealed-carry permit) I
happen to LOVE that scene in Pulp Fiction where John Travolta,
as a "professional", is committing so many egregious safety
violations when that gun "just goes off".
.
I think it should be used in safety training itself.
.

15. HAAA! The Lardass scene was the first I thought of, too.
It cracks me up how poorly shot it is -- and I agree, I think it's intentional too. The kids can hardly keep from laughing.

7. The head exploding in Scanners.
It was the first time anyone had created such an effect, and it was, um, very effective!

Honorable mention must be given to the Alien that popped out of John Hurt's stomach. It's an iconic gross-out scene, and we may be sure no one who saw Alien in the theaters was unaffected.

12. You are correct, that alien coming out of that stomach
was a moment in film, that I will never forget.
I heard that the actors did not know what was coming, so it was a surprise to them too. They knew something was going to happen, but not what. As the Dr. says..
"very effective"

8. when Divine the drag queen eats poodle shit at the end of
"Pink Flamingos". She even smiles to show it smeared on her teeth. :puke:

Movies with poop such as this and, another example, Pasolini's "Salo: one hundred days of Sodom" always gross me out badly.

9. The unsimulated vomit-eating in "Audition."
That movie has any number of fucked-up scenes, to be sure, but at least the foot-sawing, branding, etc., aren't REAL.

28. Yeah. That one's pretty brutal.
by the time what happens to the guy...well happens. You really care about him. It's not like most horror movies where it's more like cartoon violence and the victim is only on screen about 2 minutes before they die.

14. Andy Wahol's Frankenstein
Many scenes.

Pretty gory.

Some of them are on Youtube.

I saw it alone at midnight in Tampa when it first came out.

In 3-D.

So the guts and things came right at me.

22. The one that gets me is in the nuclear war movie Threads.
It's only about 2 seconds, but it's close up of a small piece of glass being removed from a what looks like a baby. Compared to all the full on gore fests I've seen it may seem like nothing, but it gives me the willies every time.

It took me a second viewing to get the full impact, but I don't have a lot of desire to watch it again. I saw it on a recommendation from here on DU which, now that I think of it, may have come from you.

31. I read "Hannibal" long before I saw the movie...
.
...and the brain-eating scene in the book actually caused some trouble
with my appetite for a few days.***
.
By the time I saw the movie, it was almost like a parody of the book for
me... and had no iota of the power of that written word. Kinda funny, in
fact.
