Anybody remember bathing caps?
Just watching an old Busby Berkely musical (Gold Diggers of 1937) and there's a pool full of lovelies singing while performing synchronized swimming and all wearing matching bathing suits and bathing caps.

Really look funny now.

1. Our kids are required to wear them during swimming lessons.
They're kinda cute, although my long-haired 11-year-old resents his.

2. No matter how short a woman's hair, or how long a man's, WOMEN were forced to wear them.
I remember that.

They pulled your hair and gave you headaches.

3. I have a large head and thick hair - did not like bathing caps
When pools no longer required them it was a relief!
The flowered ones, with attached rubber blooms, were the funniest-

4. My dear trof!
Oh, God, yes, I remember those!

I HATED them.

I don't swim any more, so it's a non-issue for me...

They didn't keep my hair dry either. Bleh.

:D

5. I actually have a bathing cap.
It was required in German public pools when I spent some time there in the 80s.
Bathing suit?
Not required.

They said the latex cap was 'for hygiene'.
But what about the hair 'down there'?
Evidently not a problem.

7. Yup. I remember them when I was a kid.
We needed one to go in the pool at Girl Scout day camp. It sucked but not as bad as having to put your face in the overly-chlorinated water with dead bugs floating in it--that was disgusting!

I remember wearing one as a very young child, and it had some kind of tentacle stuff!

9. I remember my grandmother and great aunt wearing them. They used to have really fancy ones with 3D
flowers all over them.

10. They came with removable chin straps.
I took swimming lessons at the Y and women had to wear them because they said our hair would mess up the drains (or was it the filters?) I always wondered what it was about men's hair that kept it from being a problem, but nobody could ever give me an answer to that.

I also remember in movies that the women could climb out of a pool, take that cap off, and have PERFECT hair. I know my hair always looked like a smashed wet mop when I took MY cap off. I do NOT miss those rubbery puppies at all.
