3. They piled ash from the blowout in the woods off our cul-de-sac.
I didn't live in Portland then, still lived in California and about all I knew about the Northwest was that's where our Harry & David Xmas baskets came from. I do sometimes wonder if I poked around in the woods if the ash would still be ash-like. It's on a neighbor's property, though, so I've never checked.

5. You still can.
You wouldn't know it by looking at them, but those odd mounds off of I-5 by the bridge over the Cowlitz are ash.
