Are there *ANY* chat rooms not over-run by porn bots, dirty-mouthed 12 year olds, or Freeper-types?

1. A L-O-N-G time ago, Yahoo Chat used to be like The Lounge, in real-time, rapid fire. |
|
Little window of time, maybe around 1999-2000...in there somewhere.
I used to go in there and fire off stuff like I do in the Lounge, a lot of music stuff and just smart-assed tomfoolery, and the perople were very cool...smart, fast on the uptake, great overall sense of humor.
These days, who knows. I know there are a lot of people who like IRC ("Internet Relay Chat") like mIRC, but I never had the patience to muster the learning curve.

I spent a fair amount of time in the Political Yahoo chat rooms before I joined DU.

4. Yes, I did too! Maybe you saw me there? |

One of the best chats ever was the CNN chat. Does anyone remember that one?
The chatters were all smart and well-informed. On Friday nights, they would have a news quiz (I won once!) that was a lot of fun.
Some of the CNN news people would come on at scheduled times -- I remember talking to Beth Fouey (sp?) and Joie Chen (I think).

I'm surprised I remember the name. I was "X-phile". I don't remember any other posters' names either. :hi:

10. I remember the NBA rooms. |
|
I'd spend a lot of time in there back in the late 90s. Met a lot of cool people.

8. I used to frequent AOL chatrooms when I got my first |

computer, in 1996. There were lots of categories, and topics. Within a couple of years, they were overrun with trolls.
I met DH in one, however! :D

9. I haven't been in a chat room since probably 2003. |
|
Back when Yahoo Chats were actually fairly active and the porn bots were generally lost in the chatting activity.
I just don't think people chat anymore.
