Has anyone else had oral surgery and been surprised at the post-op restrictions? |
|
(Note this is not a seeking-medical-advice post.)
I was going to get a post for a tooth implant put in yesterday, but when they went in they realized they had to do a bone graft first. I am facing months of food restrictions (no bread? no strawberries -- WAH) and also she said no exercise for EIGHT weeks! When I complained she reduced it to six weeks. Doesn't that seem excessive? I suppose I will obey, but, Jeeeez! That is going to kill me. I love to exercise, especially in summer. Then, when I have the actual tooth implant in several months, I will have to do this all over again. Basically it will probably be next Spring before I can eat and exercise as I please.
Has anyone else encountered this or is my dental surgeon just incredibly cautious and conservative about this?

1. I had a bone graft in my jaw, and had no restrictions at all. |
|
Really. None. That was last August, and I've had no problems or complications. Don't know what to make of your surgeon's position. All I know is my experience was very different.

2. Wow -- that is crazy that our post-op instructions were so different! |
|
I looked up various things on the Internet, and some said restrict exercise for one week, maybe two, and three was the absolute maximum. I don't know where the eight weeks came from; seems absolutely nuts to me. The food restrictions are probably a good thing because if I can't exercise I need to have bread and cookies as "forbidden"! No raw veggies is going to kill me, though.

had no food restrictions but did have restrictions on the gym. at least a week and then only treadmill lightly after 2 weeks some free weights then when the stitches came out I could do my regular work out.. they didn't want to put pressure on the nasal passages I was also told not to hold in a sneeze....
your post op seems excessive but I am not a dentist they must have their reasons ..
no bread???

4. The bread part surprised me. |

I guess the texture isn't good -- sticks to the site (?). No peanut butter, either. No nuts. Oy vey...
