What's the most comfortable bar you've found?
The Brass Rail is just across the park from where I live. Stumbling distance.

1. The biggest negative about my house
is no bars in walking distance other than a strip club.

I run into the problem of a lot of bars being cool before 10 and then not so much.

My current favorite, The Grey Snail has an awesome happy hour $1 domestic drafts and half price food.

2. Before I sobered up, it was a biker bar that i went to
I would wake up early in the morning and go there for a beer breakfast. The other morning folk were really cool and the bartenders were always comping me drinks. It's so close to my house I could crawl home.

4. two little neighborhood joints, both in Tucson
the NiteOwl, Grant near Alvernon long gone
and the Bay Horse, also on Grant (and Treat) still there but last time I was there - admittedly a while ago, it had been kind of commandeered by yuppies. It was a great spot,

Oh almost forgot the Monte V - damn it was on Grant too!!! great tacos and burgers!

28. One of our favorite places in the world is in Tucson
Not really a bar - the Cup Cafe at The Congress Hotel. The "bar" is just sort of stuck in the lobby, but it rocks to sit outside and have snacks and drinks at The Cup

25. OMG! Hahahahaha!
I remember them as being:

Sick Bastard
Dyin' Bastard
Dead Bastard

I have not been there for some years...but we used to order the dead bastards. We still to this day imitate one of our friends who used to get this really weird vocal tic when he drank too much...

"Gimmie onna dem dead bastards AYEEEEEUTTTTTT".

I can't believe that someone here knows what those drinks are are!

Was my watering hole for years, that was, until Goose sold it in the late eighties.

If you look close you can see one of Charlie Deal's famous patented toilet seat guitars.

9. This Lounge
I've quit going to bars. Weird? I just fell out of the habit when I quit smoking. I loved to smoke inside and drink Marqaritas. Now I stay home and drink red wine.

10. The cute little place where i work...
About 3 months ago, i landed a job at Gibbie's Pub in Morgantown WV. It's about 3 blocks walk from the downtown campus, so it's always busy on the weekends.
The place is well kept, and i've really settled in.

13. Isn't a brass rail too cold to be a comfortable bar?
I prefer padded goalposts, or one of those foam noodles you use at the pool.

24. The Red Fox Lounge, Winter Park, Florida
This little lounge is located in the Mt. Vernon Inn, corner of 17-92 and Morse Blvd. in Winter Park, Florida. A woman by herself would be comfortable here. The restaurant is closed at night but it is open from 7AM to 2PM. The lounge manager is Linda and she is a classy lady. The bartenders do a great job. Live entertainment by this couple called Mark and Lorna from 8PM to about midnight. They do a cabaret act. Very nice place.

29. 3-way tie: 2 places in Tombstone, and a former Avalon haunt
In Tombstone, AZ, we have had some surreal evenings in the Dragoon Saloon and Big Nose Kates. What other town can you go to and help the future mayor write his campaign material (Dragoon) and then meet a bunch of Cornish miners who invite you to the funeral of their friend the next day (also held at Kate's)? After finding out that we had helped get this guy elected, we understood the whole idea of The Prime Directive....

In Avalon, NJ, in the mid-80's, about 30 of us would take over the dune-side outdoor bar at Windrift on Saturday afternoon and play Motown on our boom box. The guys wore their jams, the girls wore bikinis, and one of our friends brought his parrot, who would either sit on my shoulder or sit on the boom box and "dance" (bob up and down on the handle).

37. A little hole in the wall joint called The Black Watch
Small, dark, a few booths along the wall and some rickety tables in the back. Dart boards. I like going in there in the afternoon when it's quiet. Comfortable, unpretentious, nice people.
