I need a good walking shoe..
I've started back on the treadmill, and increased my speed and incline and since I've done that it seems the sneakers I wear aren't good for that kind of walking, cuz my foot starts to hurt. I don't know squat about sneakers, all I ever wear are Reebok Classics.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

1. I don't know if you live near a Fleet Feet store
but for the way they help you select a good type of shoe for your feet and use, I think it might be worth going there.
I like to walk, and look for good deals (shoes on sale), but have had hit or miss luck with those 'good deals'.

3. New Balance with a caveat
Hi,
I went to a bit of what I guess would be considered an independent upscale(?) shoe store and bought some New Balance walking shoes. The store had a lot of models, but the ones I got were actually made in America instead of China. They were pricey though, more than the New Balance models big stores sells, but the ones they carry that are made elsewhere. I would suggest going to an independent running shoe store if one is available where you live to at least look and see what they have to offer.

As always, go with comfort first, but I am very happy with these and have put a lot of miles on them.

Good luck, and peace

4. I'll second New Balance - just don't get attached to a particular model number
because it will almost certainly have been replaced by the next time you go shopping. Also, it would be wise to go to a store where a knowledgeable person can advise you on size and fit and the best model for your particular application...

5. I started running again a little over 2 years ago
when my weight creeped up on me again. Initially, I strained knees and tendons due to the wrong shoes, so I went to Road Runner Sports here in Northern California. (they're also on the web and their flagship store is in San Diego.) They had me on the treadmill and videoed my gait in order to fit me properly. That was in October of 2008 and I have been injury-free since then.

I've found that when I hurt myself I tend to stop exercising and once I've recovered it's like starting again at Square 1. So no owwies have allowed me to run faster and longer than I ever thought possible.

My point is, even if you have to pay extra, consider it a long-term investment. The right equipment makes all the difference in the world.

6. Crazy idea: ask a doctor.
Maybe that pain is muscles developing, and maybe that pain is because of the shoes. I wouldn't assume it's the shoes, necessarily. You might just google "jogging shoes" and try to figure out what differentiates such specialized shoes from Reebok Classics.

I saw a great t-shirt yesterday: Pain is weakness leaving the body. I'm not sure I'd go that far, but I appreciate the sentiment.
