land line/cell phone etiquette question
I would never call anyone on a home landline between 10am-10pm,unless it was an emergency.

What about cell phones? Is it OK to call a person's cell 24/7?

1. What strange rules. Why would you interrupt someone during their day if it's not

a pressing issue? It's less intrusive to leave a message on a landline if it's not something time sensitive.

Why would you think you can call a cellular 24/7? Folks with elderly parents, or with children NEVER turn them off.

2. Did you mean 10PM-10AM?
To answer your question, I use the same time frame for calling on ANY type of phone: after 9PM only if I know the person stays up later, then no later than 10:30 or so, and I try not to call anyone before 9AM either.

As has already been mentioned, some people don't shut off their cell phones when sleeping so better to be safe than sorry is my rule.

4. the thing with cell phones
Most phones offer free calling after 9:00 PM. Until my current plan (where I can call any cellphone for free), all my friends and family on other networks would wait till 9 to call me.

5. I never turn off my cell phone so I would not appreciate a phone call at night. Calling a cell
phone during the day depends on what that person is working on. Are they always available to take phone calls or a are they working somewhere where they can't unless it is important?

6. The rules, which vary by person and the state of the relationship, do not change
While rate plans and time zones may affect your 10-10 rule (which makes sense to me in any case; I'm just sayin'), I cannot see how the nature of the technology in the handset would be the game changer.

7. +1 It depends on who you're calling
If it's a good friend, then you probably know the schedule. For example, I don't like getting called after 9pm. But my friends know they can call any time after 6am, and I'm fine with that. I understand that there are people who don't like getting called at 6am.

If it's not a friend, then I would call between 10am and 5pm. Business hours, sort of.

8. A phone call is a phone call.
10p to 10a is a good rule of thumb for the bending of other's ears, cell or landline.

9. My Blackberry has bedside mode which is the bomb
From 11pm (when I usually go to bed) until 5:30am (when I usually get up) nothing is going to come through the phone and I can use it as an alarm.

That tech aside, I would never call anyone after 10pm unless it were an emergency (OK, I have a couple friends I know I can call later, but general rule). I don't have a problem calling them during the day at their cell because if they don't want to answer, I'll just leave a message.

11. Late night / middle-of-the-night calls better be an emergency, whether cell or landline, IMO.
