I did the other night. Nothing was working and microsoft wanted me to do several things. Also my wallpaper had turned back to what windows had it at the start. I turned it back on tonight and it is fine. Weird. And I don't like weird due to PTSD. Does anyone know if Microsoft does this when your software is 7 years old.

1. I occasionally have that issue even with NEW Windows software
Apparently, when you start up your machine, your actual profile doesn't load properly so Windows loads a generic profile (which is why you don't see your own desktop). I don't know what the fix is, but all you need to do is restart. And just for grins, you should scan your hard drive for viruses and malware. If you don't already have antivirus software and don't wish to buy it, give Avast a try. It's excellent! And AdAware is a good free package to clean out malware.

2. Only when I'm in the wrong house.
I hate when that happens.
