...was not TOO long after I was stationed in Germany.

Went upstairs to the bathrooms and went in and chose
a stall. Had been sitting there for just a little while when
laughing women started coming in. I had made it a POINT
to make sure I went into the men's room, but all of a
sudden realized that if I had WANTED to stand up, there
was no place for me to have done so.

Some joker had switched the signs.

And GOT me.
.
Too embarrassed to move, I was stuck there for a good
15-20 minutes until a lull in the 'action' allowed me to
slip out unobserved. Spent the whole time worried that
someone would notice the Army-issued jump boots under
the stall door.

All these decades, it's been impossible for me to go
into an unfamiliar rest room without, at the very least,
veri-FREAKIN'-fying that there are urinals present.

1. I walked in to the wrong rest room at a bus station once

the bus that day stopped at a different gate than normal and I got turned around inside the station. Yeah, the lack of urinals and the doors on the stalls should have have clued me in.

3. I had to lead a raid on a men's room once

At a comedy club in Boston that had like 2 stalls for women, and there were about 40 of us in line after the show, watching the guys pop in and out of their bathroom with no line. I said to the other women in line "I'm not from here, so I don't care - as soon as the last guy comes out of there, I'm going in - who's with me?" and a whole bunch of us went in. The guys were miffed to have to wait a few minutes to get their bathroom back (meanwhile, the women at the back of the line were STILL waiting).

That has always driven me crazy at bars and concert venues - that some guy who spec-ed it or designed it thought that 1-2 stalls should suffice for hundreds of women.

No one really minded although it did stir up the crowd a bit!
