Mark Twain's 100 Year-old Autobiography Features 'Vibrating Sex Toy'

When Mark Twain died in 1910 he left 5,000 pages of memoir with instructions that they be published 100 years after his death. This year! Want to know what part we're most excited about? It involves a turn-of-the-century vibrator.
According to the Independent, the University of California will release the first volume in November. And:

A section of the memoir will detail his little-known but scandalous relationship with Isabel Van Kleek Lyon, who became his secretary after the death of his wife Olivia in 1904. Twain was so close to Lyon that she once bought him an electric vibrating sex toy. But she was abruptly sacked in 1909, after the author claimed she had "hypnotised" him into giving her power of attorney over his estate.

Their ill-fated relationship will be recounted in full in a 400-page addendum, which Twain wrote during the last year of his life.

Also, you know, should be cool to hear about his life and stuff. But he already wrote like three autobiographies when he was alive so who really cares.

1. I'm not surprised.
Mark Twain loved every electronic gadget. His house was the first with phones installed.

As much of the world we live in now he'd probably hate, I'm sure he would nominate the iPad for the best thing to happen. ;)

5. You are correct!1 I just blanked in the mis-reading of it.
I don't know whether the secrtetary's gift to Samuel was like one of Norman MAILER's lovers wrote recently, that he had given her (back when) one of those new-fangled VCRs for them to watch porn with, and finally she figured out that this gift TO HER was really FOR HIM.

4. I heard the vibrator was invented as a labor saving device for doctors.
Something to do with the treatment they gave for "hysteria". And to be honest, that kinda grosses me out.

6. Twain was this country's 2nd rock star. Franklin was the first. His house in Hartford is
totally cool - two doors down from Harriet Beecher Stowe:

7. Two doors down ...
They're laughing and drinkin', and having a party
Two doors down
They're not aware that I'm around

Cause here I am
Crying my heart out, feelin' sorry while
They're having a party two doors down

I think I'll dry these useless tears
And get myself together
I think I'll wonder down the hall
And have a look around
'Cause I can't stay inside
This lonely room and cry forever
I think I really rather join 'em
Two door down, yeah

10. "Noise proves nothing.
Often a hen who has merely laid an egg cackles as if she had laid an asteroid."

Doh!
