Poll question: Which is better? LOST or The Wire? |
|
Okay, we can now make a fair comparison.

3. I haven't actually seen The Wire, but... |
|
I bet it's better than LOST!
(I say this as an avid Lost follower, too. It was all a scam. Can't wait to watch The Wire now.)

That you haven't seen The Wire yet. It's like there's this tremendous treasure awaiting you, you know about it, you know how to get it and you're going to get it. That should feel awfully good.
Me, I've seen it several times and I still rewatch it when it's OnDemand (just watched Season 3, episode 2 last night after LOST, sort of a palate cleanser if you will)

2. The Wire, of course. But Lost is plenty great in its own right. |

And how can you compare the two? Really? That's like saying, "What's your favorite food? A tall stack of pancakes or a thick, juicy burger?" Each is a great show in its own way.

hands down. I tried to watch a few episodes of Lost...and they lost me. The Wire I can watch over and over...loved that show.

6. I will say, however, that I actually enjoyed the LOST finale more than The Wire finale. |
|
As in it stuck with me longer.
While I think The Wire is the better of the two shows (with no disrespect to LOST, another terrific show), The Wire finale was a bit underwhelming. Yeah, Marlo was finally taken down and McNulty had to cop to fabricating the homeless killer story, but all in all it didn't have a real finale feel to it. Although I thought it was nice that Bubbles finally was invited upstairs to eat dinner with his sister.
I'd probably say Season 2 and Season 4 of The Wire had the best finales of the series.

7. They are way too different to compare |
|
Completely different genres.
The Wire is a brutally honest look at inner city Baltimore.
LOST is escapist fantasy/spiritual/sci-fi. It's all over the place.
In terms of finales, I still think Six Feet Under beats both. I felt the LOST finale was more satisfying than the Wire finale but that may be because I watched all the seasons of the Wire in a fairly quick setting (few weeks). I've been watching LOST for 4 years.
But the Wire finale fit the scope of the show. Even major character deaths in the Wire were treated somewhat nonchalantly, which I think was purposely done (and I think it was effective and worked for the show).
But viewers should be warned. The Wire is not a "fun" show and isn't light viewing.

The two best TV shows evah IMO.
I think The Wire was probably the better show, but the Lost was.....LOST. I cried today when I thought about Jack laying down to die where it all began. That first scene with him opening up his eyes wearing a suit lying in the jungle.....then a dog walks by. I was instantly hooked.
