Of course anything by Ed Wood is ranked right up there...or down there.

39. Ed Wood's stuff is so bad it's funny
Particularly if you get together with friends and do a MST3K riff on it.

"Manos, the Hands of Fate" is so bad that even the MST3K crew couldn't rescue it. Only time I've ever turned it off in the middle of an episode.

5. Other..."Druids"
Two words.

Un. Watchable.

Must-read review here:

http://efilmcritic.com/review.php?movie=6141

"...Druids is an epic historical drama featuring a cast of dozens. In the background of every scene you’ll find local folks drafted in as extras that have all the ferocity and acting talent of a small cod. When they’re required to run across a battlefield like warriors, they jog for a while, then slow to a walk to catch their breath. Some wave their fists in the air, but not so much like they’re angry, more like they’re trying to get the attention of a valet outside a restaurant. The fight scenes are similarly laughable. In Braveheart, you spotted the occasional extra not exactly trying hard, but in Druids you not only can’t find one that is trying hard, but Christopher Lambert himself walks through the battle scenes like he’s pulled a hamstring and is looking for somewhere to sit down."

I could not make it through, and I am a fan of Christopher Lambert AND Druids.

10. Leonard Part 6
Although he wrote and produced it, Bill Cosby denounced and attempted to disown the movie before it was ever released.

He supposedly preemptively purchased the TV rights to the film just so it would never be shown on the air.

14. "Cycle Vixens" aka "Young Cycle Girls"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079018/

Supposedly sort of a female version of "Easy Rider" with teenage girls riding across the country, but it's so god-awful in every aspect: writing, acting, filming, editing... it's the worst example of filmmaking I have ever seen.

I actually enjoy watching "Glen or Glenda" and "Plan 9 From Outer Space" because they are unintentionally funny. Those are his classics, but also "Bride of the Monster," "Night of the Ghouls," "Jail Bait" and "Orgy of the Dead" are all worth seeing once.

It is so bad that it even reduced the Mystery Science Theater 3000 writers to silence for long stretches of the film. Contemplate that for awhile.

And it's not a coincidence that a Texas fertilizer salesman was pivotal in the making of that movie, either...

Manos was as bad as it was simply because the original makers were so earnest and serious.

And that question mark sometimes wakes me up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night...

Granted, it's the only one I've seen, but... truly, truly, truly atrocious. It did, however, provide an entire 80 minutes of comic relief. It was ALL so BAD I couldn't stop laughing. The director/writer/star now likes to claim that it was intended as a "black comedy," but... no.

63. The first measure for a bad movie, in my opinion
Is that it had to have been made in some seriousness. That immediately lets out Ed Wood oeuvre, Manos, and most other atrocious movies. People were putting together dreck, and they knew on some level that it was dreck.

What qualifies a movie for bad movie status is that it has to be a serious attempt at something else. Gigli and Ishtar were major studio productions, and to this day no one can quite grasp why they were made. (Although, I have seen Ishtar, and it’s not 100% bad; did it justify its incredibly bloated budget? No, but it’s not like it’s your money, right?) From Justin to Kelly didn’t try to be anything it wasn’t: a quickie attempt to cash in on very fleeting fame. A lot of sequels qualify; they aren’t trying to get a fresh approach to a classic set up, they’re just running that horse into the ground (think Rooster Cogburn on Little Blackie in True Grit) to squeeze out a few more bucks.

Sometimes a bad movie can be saved if you squint just right, hold your mouth a certain way, and think about something else entirely while it’s being screened. Sometimes a movie gets to bad because of some poignant happenstance: some fine or decent or even just inoffensive actor makes a piece of absolute crap just for the paycheck before dying unexpectedly, and you think, “God, I’d hate to be remembered for that!”

So, what’s the worst movie of all time? Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Ask any of the surviving principals.

OMFG what a schlockfest from the 70s!!!! So sad, cuz Billy Crystal was the main character. He starts out a virgin, has bad sex and becomes the first pregnant man. 67. It's a mistake to include Plan 9 and Manos in these kinds of polls
Along with other B-movie fare. Let's be honest: most people who vote for them only know of them thanks to MST3K (if at all) or because they've seen the titles in previous "worst movie" polls. I submit that not one person in 10,000 who claims to have seen Manos has actually seen it except in that context.

A film made 50 years ago with a shoestring budget (even for the time) and no resources simply shouldn't be judged against multi-million dollar films from the past ten years, with access to top-of-the-line special effects, A-list actors, and award-winning writers. That would be like saying "your second grader's tooth pageant really sucks compared to Avenue Q" (or whatever).

For a film to qualify as "worst of all time," there should be a reasonable expectation that the film could have/should have been good. Including Plan 9 and its genre-kin in the selection pool is kind of like beating up on the poor kid in the rich school IMO.

What a dog of a movie.

Have you ever noticed that in horror movies women can NEVER, EVER run more than 2 feet without falling down? And they ALWAYS sprain their ankle.

73. How about Night of the Lepus
that featured killer bunny rabbits that were creating havoc by hopping around a dollhouse set.

Then there's Saturday the 14th, a somewhat lame attempt to spoof the "Friday the 13th" series

Of course, there's also Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, a movie that requires the viewer to be, um, intellectually incapacitated in order to be able to sit through the whole thing

For foreign movies, there's Zazi dans le Metro, which is all about a French girl running around a subway

75. I watch Plan 9 From Outer Space whenever I need to focus on a difficult problem...
the film is so incredibly bad that it shuts down the logic centers of my brain, allowing me to make intuitive leaps of logic.
