I never thought I would say this, but Windows 7 is much better than OS X.
I OWN a Mac Mini with OS X, so I can claim this. M$ stole enough of the good parts from OS X to make Win 7 good, but it is actually better. It is faster, cleaner, and easier to find things in. I'm typing this on a Vista box (which is NOT even CLOSE to OS X). Somebody must have gone through the rows upon rows of cubicles and whapped the developers over the head with a "make some fucking sense out of shit" hammer. M$ actually did something right, well, at least this once. Although NT 4.0 SP 4 wasn't bad. You could actually get 6 months of uptime from that, which is great for a M$ box.

This isn't intended as flame bait. I REALLY never thought I would say something like this about a M$ OS. For the record, I started with an Apple II, and moved on to a C=64 and later an Amiga. I worked with the very first (and pre-M$) PC when it came out and every version of DOS/Win since. CP/M was the model for DOS, but it was much more powerful (and I worked with that too - including the Osborne). PC's sucked moose cock until Win 98 SE came out - and even that was many years behind the Amiga - as was the Mac. The Atari ST was the closest thing to an Amiga, but not as powerful. M$ didn't catch up until at least XP (and I'm being generous with that one). So yeah, I'm a M$ critic - but Win 7 is slick.

Caveat: this is a new machine I recently bought. I have no idea what an upgrade from Vista would do to a machine, but I'm not willing to risk it, given my history with M$ upgrades.

1. My dear HopeHoops!
I too love Windows 7!

My husband bought me a brand new one last year, and I'm having a ball. It's easier, more elegant, and all that...

I'm not a really knowledgeable person with computers, but I know when something's working well, and this is.

:hi:

6. Yeah, it is really embarrassing to admit it, but it is good.
Of course, the 27" wide screen monitor I got with it doesn't hurt any.

2. Bought a laptop running Windows 7 In March.
I like it. It's a nice enough OS.

3. So the 'Preferences' for any Windows program are now
under its name? :woohoo:

;)

Enjoy your machine. (This is not snark, I've worked on Windows for several years. Both systems have their ups and downs.)

4. That's slightly believable, but only slightly. I'll stay with Linux, thank you.
The security of the Mac + the cheapness and openness of the PC.

Can't beat that. Unless you're a gamer, in which case using Windows is actually forgivable.

That will be all. Have a nice day.

8. I've used a shitload of Unix and Linux machines over the years.
The KDE desktop is STILL the best of show, in my opinion. I liked DEC's X-Windows system, and Sun has always had a great environment. I've got a few re-purposed PC's running Linux in the house. One is a dual boot 95/Debian system. At the moment it is in the basement and not connected. Still, as far as M$ is concerned, this beats the shit out of anything they've done before.

9. Yeah, yeah, I know. Still, credit should be given when it is due.
I've got a 27" with a huge jellyfish as the background at the moment.

12. Okay, I like that one. I didn't see it in the list.
Is it available for download somewhere? Also, is it Aero compatible?

13. Rainmeter is fun
I used it for a while but being that I still have a smallish monitor, and I always have a window open, all I really needed was a taskbar that wasn't ugly, so I got RocketDock:

I have a "docklet" installed that will "fan" folders and I don't really need a weather thingy because I have a Firefox Addon for that.

:hi:

Geek confession, I'm running Windows 2000 on this particular machine.
