Yikes...I took one of my dogs to the vet today.. |
|
looked like she was having an issue with her ear. I was afraid something had crawled in...turns out she has an infection. But when they weighed her..she'd gained 11 pounds in 7 months. :wow: So now we're getting her thyroid checked. She's shedding a lot more than normal too, and the vet said a thyroid problem would explain the weight gain and the overly heavy shedding.
I haven't changed the way I feed her, or given her more treats. Matter of fact I give her less treats now, instead she gets an ice cube and thinks that's a treat.

but, she drinks A LOT of water. I've never seen a dog drink as much as she does. I told my vet about it when she was a puppy and he ran a bunch of tests. I'm not sure if he did a test for cushings, though. He'll be calling me tomorrow, I'll ask him about it then.
Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

5. My dog is on thyroid medicine. |
|
Her hair had gotten very thin and she gained so much weight but it wasn't until she woke up one morning with cloudy eyes that they finally tested her for thyroid problems. It was scary.
Her hair has grown back in, she lost a few pounds and has much more energy now. She takes half a pill twice a day and will be on it for the rest of her life.
Good luck with your dog.

is doing better. I imagine seeing the cloudy eyes was very scary. Poor baby!
My vet said if it's a thyroid problem, once she starts on medication, we'll see her lose some weight. Her hair isn't really thin, but she literally sheds handfuls and handfuls of hair. She's short haired and normally brushing her three times a week is all she needs. I can brush her 3 times a day, and it's still really bad.
