18. Singer & Thayer wearing Criss & Frehley's makeup is as wrong as wrong gets
I always thought that half the rationale behind taking the makeup off was to stage an "event" around putting it back on.

But at least when Vinnie Vincent and Eric Carr were in the band, they came up with new makeup.

"Sonic Boom" was not half bad...it was no "Destroyer," but it a decent rock CD. But Singer & Thayer's behavior sucks, and so do Gene & Paul for encouraging it / condoning it.

8. Heard it was awful, and
glad I missed it. Stupid as it sounds, I actually have a policy of avoiding every second of the Super Bowl halftime show no matter what I have to do to get it done. There is no act that would make me want to see that show.

People often tell me I'm insane, and that I missed a great Springsteen show, but as someone who was never a fan of Springsteen's music I assure you I didn't miss a thing I would have cared for.

I have never seen anything special about their music, even that from the band's so-called "prime."

22. Blasphemers!
Aside from that whole "what the fuck were they thinking" period in the second half of the 1990s (the "Passengers" and "Pop" era) U2 has been the most consistently great band of the last 30 years.

Though admittedly they're beginning to show their age. Bono just turned 50 and he almost immediately threw his back out, putting their whole summer tour in jeopardy :evilfrown:

Them and REM. I was such a huge fan from way back but everyone shows their age eventually. :(

10. Someone eariler in this thread had the perfect answer...
...Aerosmith. To listen to their pop-oriented shit and their ballads, to me, is what being waterboarded must feel like. To think of the great music they put out in the mid-70's and the shit they fire out of their asses now...it just makes me want to puke.

With some exceptions, Chicago as a band died with Terry Kath.

14. Sammy Hagar was awesome as a soloist, and Van Halen was awesome with Diamond Dave
When I heard they were joining forces, I thought OMG HOW AWESOME this was gonna be. It was not as epic as I had imagined. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of their songs, I just thought Sammy Hagar was better as a solo artist and it was not VH without Diamond Dave

I really like the album, and I hope they last long enough to make a second one.

19. Yeah, but he's back.
Edited on Sat May-29-10 09:41 PM by Sebastian Doyle
True, the idea of Eddie's kid playing bass is a minor annoyance, and they haven't managed to release a new album yet, but they sure sounded great in 2007/8 on the reunion tour.

If only Mike Anthony could get his head surgically removed from Hagar's ass, it could have been the true original lineup. But it still beats anything since 1984.

The hair is shorter but damn it, it's Dave & Eddie and that's the important part.

29. It's So Strange....
I really felt that Sammy was the best thing that ever happened to Van Halen. Songs like..."Right Now." etc. etc. Different strokes I guess.

30. The music was bubblegum under Sammy.
But enough folks liked Van Hagar that it lasted for a number of years.
