1. I believe the difference is that geeks have decent social skills, whereas nerds do not.
I consider myself definitely in the "geek" category.

3. My sense is that nerd is more wonkish & geek is more computerish. I saw
some urban dictionary type definitions a few months ago, will try to find them.

FINALLY: The Difference between Nerd, Dork, and Geek Explained by a Venn Diagram

By Great White Snark | March 25, 2010

To all of you nerds and geeks who–like me–have been unfairly and inaccurately labeled “dorks,” only to then exhaustively explain the differences among the three to a more-than-skeptical offender, I say:

You’re welcome. This nerd/dork/geek/dweeb Venn diagram should save you a lot of time and frustration in the future.

10. I think they both make reference to someone who's considered socially a weirdo
but I would say what differentiates them from one another is a nerd would be an egghead who's geekish.

Something like that I guess. Either way it doesn't matter because they're both labels meant to be harmful and I'd never use either one of them on someone. However, if someone used them on me I'd wear it as a badge of pride. It takes away the name caller's power to try and build their ego by attempting to tear me down.

25. Geeks have one or more "eccentric" obsessive interests.
Edited on Sun May-30-10 11:45 PM by Odin2005
Nerds don't necessarily have the obsessiveness.

Basically all us Aspies are geeks by definition!

27. that is an excellent question
as most people feel the labels are interchangeable (most people are neither geeks or nerds). i think a briggs-myers type test is necessary to accurately analyze where one falls on the geek/nerd spectrum. for instance: i am a geek, but i speak nerd. i just don't dress that way ,-)
