injured bird help needed...I have had a flock of crows driving me nuts for the
last hour...I went out to see what all the carrying on was about and saw a (I thought ) dead bird in my yard. I got some gloves and a garbage bag, but the baby bird blinked...and the adults went nuts and started dive bombing me...the little bird (not too small, maybe 1/4 the size of an adult) hopped in to the street..can't fly and keeps falling over. I managed to herd the baby in to some shrubs but what to do? Any suggestions? The flock is real upset.

1. I don't know anything about birds -- poor little baby. Cross post this in the
Pets forum if you can.

Also perhaps see if there are any bird rehabbers near you? Check online - quite often wildlife people are on call 24/7

Good luck to you and the little birdie! :hi:

2. Are the rest of the crows looking out for the baby, protecting it?
Sounds like they were pissed at you for trying to pick up the bird.

4. A predator has taken it out of the nest, and possibly injured it.
But was too harassed to cart it off and eat it.
The bird people will probably not rescue a crow. Same with pigeons.

6. See if there is a wildlife rescue place in your area
If not, give it water and mushy dry dog food. Be VERY careful that the bird doesn't inhale the water or the food.

But look for a wildlife care place first.

Mushy dog food after that.

11. Take an eye dropper, a bottle, a syringe, or something of that ilk
Take it inside, and put it in a shoebox, if you haven't already.

12. Parent/adult birds will watch over and feed fledglings
Edited on Sun May-30-10 10:58 PM by marzipanni
That's why they were telling you not to approach it :)
It may have just left the nest and is getting used to hopping.
Please read "Fledglings", and "Crow on the ground" paragraphs on this wildlife rehabilitation page-

13. It isn't flock of crows. It is a "murder" of crows. I always thought that was kinda creepy.
I would make sure the little one is somewhere where there are no cats. That is all you can do.
