For reasons I can't explain, I decided to get up this morning and drive to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge
For some bizarro reason i got up this morning and thought I'd drive all the way down to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, somewhere at the very tip of the Delmarva Pennisula and then all the way back to Wilmington.

BTW, to avoid a alot of tolls on 95 - take 301 up to Middletown DE. Although make sure you take a pitstop before you get over the Bay Bridge. I think I drove thru the woods where the Blair Witch lived.

2. I did some work on Clean Water issues down in the Chesapeake Bay...
.
...camping for a while on the Eastern Shore.
.
BEAUTIFUL.
.
.
Did some work with the watermen -- and a more impressive group
of people I don't think I've ever met.
.
Many of them had dropped out of school in GRADE SCHOOL(!!!) to
work on their dads' boats, but very many of them were exceptionally
bright -- well-read, self-taught and well-informed on the issues
concerning them and their livelihood.
.
I greatly enjoyed my time working with them.

3. By the way, how went the beach house stay?
.
You made me think of the time we got a LAST-minute
offer of a beach house at around 9 PM on a Friday.
.
An hour later, 6 of us in two cars headed down, all
but the drivers in various forms of, shall we say...
altered states.
.
We stopped along a cornfield for a reststop, and
the two passengers in the other car decided that
attaching cornstalks to their car would make them
invisible to law enforcement. VERY funnily and
heavily camouflaged vehicle. We stopped them within
a couple of miles and convinced them it was not
going to work.
.
Got to the beach house -- keys were not where they
were supposed to be (1 or 2 in the morning) -- but
finally found them. Made a HUGE pot of hot spiced
wine and stayed up partying, went down to the beach
for sunrise, an early morning FREEZING swim and back
to the house for a well-deserved and muchly-needed
CRASH.
.
GREAT weekend overall.
.
Ah... the good ol' carefree impromptu "Fuck YEAH, we
should go -- right this very instant!!!!" days.
.

5. I love the bridge but I was so upset!!1
I had my first legal alcohol beverage on that bridge. Virginia didn't go to 21 for the drinking age until after I was 18 and even then they grandfathered it in - over 18 but under 21 could drink beer legally in Virginia. So for my 20th birthday we went to Virginia Beach but I had hapen to be in OCMD for 2 days before the trip. So when we stopped at the restaurant on the bridge they had a bar there and I legally ordered a drink.

So driving down to the bridge today all I could think of was I would have lunch at the restaurant on the bridge (no I wasn't drinking - I was driving by myself). Would you believe the restaurant is closed until summer for renovation

I practically starved my way driving down to that bridge. If I had known that I would have grabbed something to eat at one of the dozens of crappy diners I passed on RT 13. That part of MD/VA between OCMD and the bridge is not overdeveloped - a bit rural. So there are tons of old diners along the route and I skipped them in hopes to eat at the diner on the bridge.

Oh and I took the other way home so I ended up at some restaurant joint by a series of strip malls in Newport News

6. You are talking about the Bay bridge And TUNNEL
Which is much different from the Bay Bridge which connects part of Maryland and is not on the Delmarva penninsula. How can you have lived around here and not know the diff?

7. It's good to go places sometimes, LynneSin
Very good indeed. I think it reminds us of the freedom we have in this country. I make a living out of going places.

10. Going for a drive just to go is something we all feel, or want
from time to time. Wanderlust, or whatnot. Some of us are like dogs, 'you wanna go for a ride???, yah yah yah!'
I do it less these days than when I was younger. And with more purpose today, as I hate to burn fossil fuel and pollute the atmosphere.
But I do it, particularly with a motorcycle, and sometimes to include a boat ride, or a bridge, just to go over the bridge.
