Brian Wilson to Rejoin Beach Boys for 50th Anniversary Tour

Beach Boys member Mike Love said the band’s reclusive songwriter Brian Wilson will join the other surviving members for a 50th anniversary tour next year, Spinner.com reported Monday.

"We're gearing up for the 50th anniversary and Brian Wilson, who has been working on some unfinished Gershwin music project, will rejoin us,” Love said. Love has toured regularly with veteran Beach Boys members and other musicians under the Beach Boys name, while Wilson has performed sporadically since 2002 after spending years outside the spotlight.

Wilson will join Love and Al Jardine, the other surviving original member of the band, for the anniversary tour. Wilson’s brothers and bandmates, Dennis and Carl Wilson, died in 1983 and 1998, respectively. The surviving Beach Boys last appeared together in public at a press conference in 2006 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the group's landmark album "Pet Sounds."

6. let me ask you something
in my job I communicate with a lot of people in Michigan - they respond to a lot of instant messages with simply, "nuts". No one else does this. Is the "nuts" response a Michigan thing? :D

3. It could be pretty interesting-Mike Love and Brian Wilson have been suing each other
for several decades. I hope they can keep it going-they were a great band in their day, and Brian is a genius...

4. Love will have to lose a few of the hacks he's been dragging to state fairs
Actually, Love has been suing Alan Jardine, too, so it's nice that he's in line for one more huge paycheck.

But if you've seen any of the YouTube clips of "The Beach Boys" in recent years, that is one sloppy band. It;s Love and Brian Johnston plus one of the Cowsills and a bunch of bar-band wannabes.

Brian's "Live At The Roxy" album featured the Wondermints (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wondermints), who could have the current "Beach Boys" band for lunch. Carl was always the heart of the band, and doing this without him creates mixed feelings in me, but Brian with Mike Love and Al Jardine backed by the Wondermints could be pretty entertaining indeed. Love should be given no more than a 1/3 say in what goes down, with the other two thirds going to Wilson and Jardine.

:toast:

7. Love kept the name going and took credit for some songs that he may not have written...
Brian music, Carl drove the band- I saw TV performances of Brian's band and they were as good or better than the original.

I think Brian is being generous with Mike Love in this, probably thinking of the fans...I recently read Brian's 1991 book, "Wouldn't It Be Nice", which is an autobiography, and I recommend it to everyone who even slightly likes the music.

I wish them success and I am hoping for a great live CD!!!

10. Mike Love was very fortunate to have Brian as his first cousin.

I don't think Mike's very talented at all. Solo stuff he recorded wasn't worth a toot.

5. Yikes! I've probably seen The Beach Boys live in concert more than any other band...
They were my brother's favorite, so I went with him. His favorite Beach Boy was Carl, though, so I picked Dennis... ;(

If they sound like this, we are in for a great show.

I think Brian is just great, and I'm glad to see the Boys back touring...50 years ago I was 12!!!
