2. I understand Hands Christian Andersen got his nickname because...
...it was like bein' in the room with a friggin' octopus, just hands everywhere. You can tell from the portrait below that he's trying to act all innocent and stuff, you know, "who me," but I'll bet the artist had to ask him to sit back down and keep his hands to himself at LEAST a few times during the sitting. The way he has his hands in the picture, it's almost like a dare, like he's taunting, saying "Yoo hoo, look at what I got for you-oo..."

Too bad, because he wrote a few good stories. His legacy shouldn't be tainted with this kind of thing but he brought it on himself.

3. maybe phrased in more positive terms
soft and doughy sounds oooky (or maybe that's because working hands appeal to me more :P )

what about smooth and refined?

..."soft and doughy cooky"...

...and my first thought was... "M-m-m-m-m-m... manhands.

My first manhands crush.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Soft and doughy. A little bit of a push poll here? :) I don't mind soft hands, but doughy? No thanks.

5. Unfortunately, the callouses you get from playing the double bass...
can be somewhat grotesque at times.

They are at the tips of the fingers and the side of the thumb.

Too much practice, and you end up looking like a "War of the Worlds" alien extra.

7. ahhh, men's hands ... mmmm ... sigh
Sorry, I thought this might be a picture thread. What was the question?

Ahem! I say both and I say either. Because all I care about is what the hands do, in general and in particular.

11. Yeah
I noticed his hands/nails when I saw Iron Man 2. I had to look up images of him just to make sure they hadn't cast some creepy hand actor for the close-up shots. I know it's not his fault and I am a bad, shallow person for letting it get to me.

10. When I was a kid I worked at a counter top factory loading trucks
My hands were very callused. Anyway, it was fun to shake hands because every once in awhile someone would comment about it.
