What is your favorite type of soup?

I love broccoli cheddar, lobster bisque and the kind of chicken noodle that's thick and creamy.

1. Lentil soup.

It's easy to make and easy to keep it vegetarian :)

2. Probably New England Clam Chowder is myu favorite. Also leek and potato, and tomato soups

which include all the bisques, but also just plain old cream of tomato soup. The latter with a grilled cheese sandwich, please.

And French Onion soup. Oh, and oxtail soup. OMG, that's good!

Also like me a Tuscan-style bean and spicy sausage soup. Damn tasty.

4. Cream of Poblano

During the winter months, the mediterranean deli/grocery store near my house makes an awesome poblano soup. It's truly addictive.
Close runners up would be broc/chz, clam chowder (NE style) and Italian wedding soup.

5. French onion soup with the sop of bread and melted cheese on top

is my absolute favorite. But I like many others as well, cream of mushroom, chicken noodle with lots of noodles, hot and sour, egg drop, to name a few.

11. Home-made Pasta e Fagioli, a.k.a. "Pastafazool."

Pasta, cannellini beans, tomatoes, garlic, onion, chicken broth, and either prosciutto or pancetta (both work equally well)...what's not to love?

I use the recipe from Rao's Restaurant:

Pasta e Fagioli (Italian Pasta and Bean Soup)

* 1/2 cup fine quality olive oil
* 1 cup diced onion
* 1/3 cup diced prosciutto or pancetta
* 2 cloves garlic, peeled
* 4 cups cooked beans with 1 cup of their cooking liquid or 2-15oz cans Great Northern or Cannellini beans with their liquid
* 4 cups Chicken Broth
* Salt and pepper to taste
* 2 cups Rao's canned imported Italian plum tomatoes, well drained and chopped
* 1 pound Ditali pasta cooked
* 1/4 cup freshly grated Pecorino Romano cheese, optional

1. Combine oil, onion, prosciutto, and garlic in a large saucepan over medium heat. Saute for about 5 minutes or until onions are translucent and begin to turn golden. Do not burn garlic.
2. Stir in beans and their liquid. Add broth and salt and pepper and bring to a boil. Add tomatoes and return to a boil. Lower heat and simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes.

3. Stir in pasta and cook for an additional 5 minutes. Serve hot, sprinkled with Pecorino Romano cheese, if desired.
Note: You can eliminate the tomatoes for a rich, creamy soup; however, you might need to add additional bean or chicken broth if you prefer a thinner soup.

Never much of a soup fan. Sometimes Sweet Tomatoes or Fresh Choice has something I like--a potato or corn chowder or something like that. But honestly, I still don't understand the point of soup. It's like someone spilled their beverage on their plate of food and decided to eat it, anyway.

Of my seven favorites, the only one that I don't
