Because sometimes words and meds just don't work
I have a friend who lives about 1300 miles away from me out in Denver, Colorado. We met on a dating site for the mentally ill and we both have the same illness. We've met in person a few times, but things haven't really worked out in a romantic kind of way. But we have kept in touch via phone and e-mail and we are good friends.

She's been having a really tough time lately with her illness and her financial situation. We both like baseball and she's a big Rockies fan. So we were talking tonight and she was telling me about how she's depressed because she doesn't have enough money to really enjoy life. It's all she can do to make ends meet let alone go out and do the things she likes to do, like go to art shows and baseball games.

Compounding her depression is the fact that she's all alone in the world. She lives 1000 miles away from her nearest family member, however she says that's close enough. And she can't really afford a social life so she doesn't have a lot friends. I tried to give her my best pep talk but I could tell I just wasn't cutting it.

As we were talking I got an idea. I went to the Rockies' site and now 1 ticket for 2 games each for a late August series with the Dodgers are headed my friend's way. Because sometimes words and meds just don't work. Spread the love, people.

It's so nice to have something to look forward to, it makes the crappy stuff more bearable.

And a great friend to someone who needed a lift. Bless your heart!

ETA: I hear you about spreading the love. I'll take that advice to heart and try to pass on a favor to someone I know. Thanks for the idea.
