1. Then you're not monitoring the correct frequencies.
Hearing pirate radio stations in North America

Pirate radio stations on FM are often found towards the bottom of the FM broadcasting band, particularly between 87.9 MHz and 91.9 MHz, which is allocated to educational, public and religious broadcasters. On mediumwave (AM), pirate radio stations are often found between 1610 kHz and 1710 kHz. The most common frequencies to check for pirates in North America is the 6800 to 7000 kHz (42.86 metres-44.11 metres) range on shortwave, with 6855 (43.76 m), 6875 (43.64 m), 6925 (43.32 m), 6950 (43.16 m) and 6955 kHz (43.13 m) being most commonly used, with 6925 kHz being by far the most commonly used frequency. Pirates can pop up anytime, but anytime on weekends and evenings during the week are the best times to listen. Pirates operating on shortwave from North America often use single sideband modulation as an alternative to AM.

2. KGO 810 AM San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland
It has a powerful transmission signal- after dark people listen and call from all up and down the west coast. Interesting topics and calls, though a few more conservatives seem to call since we have a Democrat in the White House. At least the calls are accepted, unlike RW radio shows where opposing veiws are screened out. People have called and emailed from Canada, many states of the U.S., and even China because people listen on the internet.

Try listening to some of my DH and my favorites-
Gene Burns M-F 7:00 pm- 10:00 am
John Rothmann M-F 10:00 pm-1:00am
Ray Taliaferro M-F 1:00 am-5:00 am
Pat Thurston (I really like her a lot) Saturday 1:00 am-5:00 am and Sunday 1:00am -6:00 am
Christine Craft- she is there to fill in when other hosts take time off, and used to be on a small Sacramento station that had some of the Air America programming.
