the words line dance through my head they enchant sing and make me a fool
more than I already am
some days it’s all obscure but I am driven to dissolve who I am with these words
it’s hard
life holds me poetry says
where I’ve been

So glad you like it.
I agree; the first stanza is the most vivid, the strongest.

. . . Excellent. This resonates in, with, for me. Been that. Done there. . . . . . . . The phrase "line dance"? . . . . Inspired. I wish I had written that. . . . . . . . . . . Though I have to tell you, my FAVORITE poem titled, "Poetry" was by a contemporary of mine in college -- another writer who, just like I, chainsmoked while writing... lighting the next cigarette from the still-burning ember of the current one. . . . . . . . One of the shortest, most perfect li'l poems I've ever seen. . . . . . . . . POETRY . Fire in my brain. . Mountain in my ashtray. . . . . . . . Poetry IS so personal. . Fiction, I always had the escape hatch of, "Oh... that's just my imagination." . Poetry was hard to deny. . . .

It is personal, and this one is one of my most personal ones...
Which is saying something.
The phrase "line dance" just jumped out at me, and I saw it for what it was: the truth.
I like your friend's poem too! It's a bit brief for me, but still, I cannot deny its impact.
Thanks!

know no mercy
the blade cuts pure, clean, and true
exposing the precious things we think are ours alone
no quarter...you and I are the same, they insist
the words freeze and charm your gaze
you are unable to look away and will not sleep soon

27. This is lovely Peg, I like it a lot. |

And I have a lot of respect for people, such as yourself, who are able to fearlessly put their thoughts into words in an open forum.
It is not an easy thing to do.
