Life on Gilligan's island isn't that bad |
|
We had a storm Wednesday and were without electric, cable, telephone and Internet for almost three days. Nobody had AC so people actually came outside and talked to each other and helped each other clean up the debris from the storm. Instead of sitting mindlessly in front of the TV in the evening I read the newspaper and started a good book. It was like going back in time to the 50's for a while. It got me thinking back in the 50's most middle class families got by on one income. Really it is not that we can't today either it is just that today we need all that money to buy the toys. Think about it, what did you need in the 50s? A car, a black and white TV (no cable we got it free over the air), a telephone and that is about it. Today a middle class family has to have multiple TV's, computers, cars, maybe a boat, a camper, a pool, 4 wheeler and/or a motorcycle. I tell you what I think we would all be happier if we went back and lived life the way it was 50 years ago. I can't wait to ask a couple Republicans what they did not having Faux to tell them how to think. To be honest I did miss the Internet some, but I am actually thinking about cancelling the cable TV.

No matter how ingenious the Professor's coconut radio is, Ginger's going to get tired of the perfunctory, by-the-book, lovemaking he is capable of throwing down.

But as you say, for a few people to think they can buy toys (propaganda or worse)
And part of trying to own people is keeping them scared of being in poverty and such, so those conditions don't improve if a few people want to own people. And use the production of many people to try and do those things.
Note there has been some improvements in third world countries.
Best way is safety nets in society to free people up to live in less fear, part of helping the poor.
