Emma Thompson: Very catty about the dead
Claims Audrey Hepburn couldn't act.

I can honestly say I never felt the need to watch a movie because Emma Thompson was in it.

1. Thompson is a great actress - amazing range
and Hepburn was wonderful in the films I have seen. Hard to say...

2. Her Beatrice is the best one on film, imo.
But she's taking Audrey Hepburn out of context and that's a mistake.

12. I liked her Beatrice, too. But Branaugh's Benedick was goddawful, methinks.
And she does miss the point of Audrey Hepburn. Audrey was a movie star whose greatest gift was to play herself with utter conviction.

17. Branaugh is not my cup of tea. His Hamlet was unwatchable, too.
His Henry 5 was okay because Henry was a drama queen, too. lol

26. Some critic called Branaugh's Benedick in the garden "the human question mark". It was, I think,

one of the funniest scenes on film.

3. Never was a big fan of Thompson
but think she's a pretty decent actress. But, yeah, I don't ever NEED to watch an Emma Thompson movie.

4. Never really saw Audrey H. Emma, for my money, wins the Best Actress Who Isn't Meryl Streep award.
Tremendous range, able to put emotion into a role, and able to bring out complexity and depth without a word. Great actress.

I've never watched an Audrey Hepburn film that I know of. Before my time and outside my interests. So I can't really say whether I agree or not.

5. Emma Thompson has always been a phony "estuary"-speaking hatchet-face --
phony estuary, in that she has always been more privileged and more educated than her calculated glottal stops would indicate.

6. Audrey Hepburn was not a great actress.
She was a movie star and a personality, and a very good one. Emma Thompson is a talented actress. What is wrong with pointing this out?

7. Acting wasn'r required of most Hollywood stars.
Audrey hit her marks, and was pretty.

I hear Palin isn't a great writer, either.

And I feel no such need with Emma t.

One I can't take my eyes off of -
The other - meh.

11. I love them both. Audrey for what she was and Emma for what she is.
I am fine with twee vs. piss and vinegar.

15. You want catty? Actors and actresses
Every actor and actress I've ever known has been this way - and it all stems from a lack of self confidence

18. She couldn't act...
She was a movie star who essentially played the same role over and over again.

She had great screen presence but that doesn't mean she could act.

She was completely convincing as a blind woman in "Wait Until Dark."

21. I had a crush on Emma Thompson once upon a time.
It has since passed. But seeing her cameo in Pirate Radio was nice.

But Audrey can't be beat.

cannot defend themselves.

I have always liked Emma Thompson but I have lost some respect for her.

25. In fairness to Hepburn, I once read that she would not have done the
film version of "My Fair Lady" had she known that her singing was going to be dubbed (a decision that was made later on). When you think about it, can you imagine a more unrewarding part for a star in the prime of their career - starring in a musical and not singing? The biggest parts of the film - the whole point of the production - and doing nothing more than lip-synching to someone else's voice?
