Life imitates art: Fistfight at Olive Garden over kid (with autism) talking too loud
sorry, no smoking, breastfeeding or pit bulls. :(

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/palm-beach/fl-restaurant-rage-autism-20100809,0,6084633.story

Yet on Saturday afternoon, the Miramar resident, 43, said he "was grabbed by the shirt, pushed backward, wrestled down and hit" by Paul Blankfield, 36, at the Olive Garden restaurant on Congress Avenue in Boynton Beach....

Blankfield, Bennett said on Monday, was seated at a nearby table, and complained about Bennett's autistic son, Samuel, saying the 4-year-old was talking loudly.

Blankfield asked Bennett, "Can't you control your kid?" Bennett explained his son was autistic, and says Blankfield then made "a disparaging remark. Something like, 'F--- your autistic son!' " Bennett said....

" catered to him and turned their backs on me," Bennett said. "They acted as if I was the one who assaulted him. Totally inappropriate."

Hope they have unlimited gauze bandages... and what the heck is Savage Weiner doing in Florida under an alias??

1. But see this story about a woman who does breastfeed pit bulls....
....unfortunately not at Olive Garden:

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=3611466

A woman says she is breastfeeding her staffordshire bull terrier pup because she wants the dog to protect her baby girl as the pair grow up.

Hastings resident Kura "Kat" Tumanako said she started breastfeeding the pup after her own baby stopped taking her milk and she had to pour her milk away.

"I didn't want to waste it, so I gave it to Honey Boy," she said.

The pup has been having two feeds a day for the past week.

5. I heard of another report that said the opposite. And as the mother of a
severely autistic kid, I can see how families end up staying together because they are afraid to go it alone, even for a weekend. Also for financial reasons.

But you are completely correct: the stress NEVER goes away, and we are in a better position now than we were five years ago.

11. And yet I can never seem to find a nice single autism mom
who would presumably get along nicely with my autistic, single self. :(

6. What a shithead! Here's a quote:
On the way to the Boynton Beach Police Department, the arrest report quotes Blankfield as saying, "You know what … good for him … he gets what he deserved … an autistic kid."

What a judgmental asshole!

7. As an aside, I have been to that very Olive Garden.
Sadly though, when in Times Square last month, I did not partake in the OG.

16. Wow, what an asshole. As an autistic adult I still catch myself getting loud when I talk.
I fell embarrassed when I'm going into a building with someone and the person has to remind me to use my indoor voice.
